Which Italian region is right for your wedding?

Everything else is easier once you know what you want to see. The sea points to the Amalfi Coast, Portofino and the Riviera, or the wider Italian seaside. Water of a calmer kind means Como and the northern lakes. Open landscape belongs to the Tuscan and Umbrian hills, or the olive country of Puglia. And if the setting you want is architecture rather than nature, the answer is a city: Florence, Rome or Venice. Tuscany and Rome are the simplest to reach, with frequent direct flights into Florence, Pisa and Rome. The Amalfi Coast is usually approached through Naples, then a transfer by road or by sea, with accommodation spread along the coastline rather than gathered in one place. Islands and quieter regions add a further leg to the journey. When the guest list is international and large, ease of arrival can quietly decide the region on its own.

This is where local rules matter, and they are not the same everywhere. Tuscany tends to let a celebration run late. The northern lakes, Como included, are generally stricter about music and finishing times. If dancing into the early hours is central to the weekend you have in mind, it is worth asking about the rules before you fall for the setting, not after.

Budget rarely chooses the region by itself, but it shapes what is realistic within it. The most sought-after coastlines, Amalfi and Como among them, carry a premium on venues, logistics and accommodation. Inland Tuscany, Umbria and Puglia often return more space, more time and more guests for the same figure. A larger celebration of a hundred people or more is usually easier to stage well in the Tuscan countryside than on a terrace above the sea.

Established destinations have depth: caterers, florists and production teams who work these venues every week. In the most requested regions that depth is a given. In less-frequented areas the trade is exclusivity and privacy in exchange for a thinner local network. In Sicily, for instance, the choice of top-tier caterers is narrower than in Tuscany or on the Amalfi Coast, which is not a reason to rule it out, only something to plan around. Part of our work is knowing where the depth already is, and bringing it with us where it is not.

In practice the region is rarely picked from a list. It emerges from a conversation. Our part in it is to listen to what a couple actually wants, and then to guide them through everything they cannot be expected to know or foresee: how each place behaves, what it does well and where it falls short, the rules that will shape the day, the way guests will move through it. That knowledge comes from years spent working across these regions and it travels with a network of trusted suppliers we have selected over time, so that wherever the choice lands, the people around it are already the right ones. The region is the first decision of a wedding. It is also the one couples are least equipped to make alone, and the one where good counsel changes everything that follows.
